Mehrangarh Fort located in Jodhpur, Rajasthan is about 120 meters above the sea level is known for known for their intricate carvings and expansive courtyards. It is one of the most magnificent and largest forts of India founded by Rao Jodha in 1459. The fort is located at the center of the city spreading over 5 kilometres atop a high hill surrounded by walls up to 36 meters high and 21 meters wide that protects some of the most beautiful and historic palaces in Rajasthan.

Mehrangarh Fort is acknowledged as one of the best preserved fort in India.The fort also comprises of famous Fort Museum that houses an exquisite collection of the belongings of the Kingdom that once ruled here. You can have the majestic view of the Jodhpur City from the fort. Chokhelao Garden is also located at the foot of the fort and comprises of the the scents, sounds and textures of a garden of eighteenth century Marwar.

Some of the prominent structures inside the fort are Moti Mahal Built by Raja Sur Singh , Phool Mahal built by Maharaja Abhaya Singh and was the private and exclusive chamber of pleasure, Sheesha Mahal include beautifully desinged mirror-work ,Takht Vilas built by Maharaja Takhat Singh the last ruler to reside in the Mehrangarh Fort, Sileh Khana, and Daulat Khana displays the collections of fine and applied arts of the Mughal period of Indian history.

There are seven entry gates of the fort known as Pol in which Jai Pol known as Gate of Victory was built by Maharaja Man Singh in 1806 to celebrate his victory in a war with Jaipur and Bikaner, Fateh Pol was built in 1707 on victory over the Mughals , Dedh Kamgra PolLoha Pol are notable one.

Mehrangarh Fort Museum is one of the finest museums in Rajasthan with a palanquin section which displays the array of old royal palanquins. The museum exhibits the heritage of the Rathores in arms, costumes, paintings and decorated period rooms.

Mehrangarh Fort Timings and Entry Fees

Mehrangarh Fort is open fro the tourists from 09:00 hrs. Till 17:00 hrs and the entry fees for International Guests (Includes the Audio) is Rs 400 and Indian Nationals is Rs 60. Audio Guide for Domestic Guests is Rs 150 while for Indian Senior Citizen & Student is Rs 100. Entry fees to Chokelao garden is Rs 30 for all tourists.

NOTE: The ticket sales close at 17:00 hrs. And on account of Jodhpur Foundation Day on 12th May entry for all guests is free, only elevator charges are applicable.

    Wow, Mehrangarh Fort sounds like so much fun! I had the impression that I was there, taking in the stunning scenery and its extensive history thanks to your post. I’ve always had a thing for places with a backstory, and Mehrangarh seems to be full with them just waiting to be unearthed. I appreciate you sharing this wonderful location!
