India Gate is the magnificent stone archway situated in the heart of New Delhi at Rajpath. The memorial was built in honor of 90,000 soldiers who sacrificed their lives during World War I and Anglo-Afgan war. Under the arch of India gate there’s a burning black shrine Amar Jawan Jyoti which marks the tomb of Unknown Soldier. A rifle stands on the Tomb with a helmet on top. On 26th January, Republic Day of India it has been accustomed for the President and the Prime Minister, as well as visiting Guests of State, to pay tribute to the fallen armies who gave their life for the Country.This wide road is bounded by lush lawns and is shaded with trees from both the sides which make it one of the most preferred picnic spot in Delhi. The facilities of Camel riding and Boating are also available. Street foods like Bhel Puri, Gol Gappe, Chana jor Garam, Dal ke Pakore etc. can also be tasted from the roaming vendors there.During night, India Gate’s charm increases with gushing fountains and sparkling display of lights.

Architecture
India Gate abides massive historical significance, was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyen the great architect who laid the plan for Delhi. The 42-meter high gateway was composed of red stone, pale sandstone, and granite. There are about 90,000 names of the soldiers inscribed on the arch. After independence, Amar Jawan Jyoti memorial the eternal flame marking the Unknown Soldiers Tomb was added under the gateway to pay tribute to the soldiers.

Best time to visit the place is from 5:00 Am to 7:00 Am for morning walks and after 6:00 Pm to 10:00 Pm in the evenings.

There is no entry fee to visit the place.
