The Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary located in Gurgaon, Haryana is a haven place for birds. It was established by Dr Salim Ali in the year 1972. In the 359 acres of the sanctuary, there are 250 species of birds that are found here at the Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary. Although the migratory birds are the major attraction of the park, the sight of over 150 resident bird species also promises to fascinate nature lovers and bird watchers. The resident population of birds includes black-necked stork, cattle egret, Indian , white-throated kingfisher, red collared dove, rock pigeon, little egret, great egret, laughing dove, red wattled lapwing, rose-ringed parakeet, common mynah, etc.
The Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary is lush with lawns and trees and shrubs and masses of bougainvillea. Sultanpur Lake around the park is an excellent spot to watch the birds. And the four watchtowers within the park is an exceptional place to view the rich avian populace of the park. The major migrant bird species include great flamingo, striped snipe, spot-billed pelican, spotted redshank, wood sandpiper, black-tailed godwit and many others. Around 11 species of migratory birds such as black-crowned night heron, comb duck, blue-cheeked bee-eater, etc. move to the park during summers. The educational museum known as Interpretation Centre has been established here offering proper information about various resident and migratory birds of the park to the tourists.
