Badrinath temple is one of the most sacred pilgrim center located in Chamoli district of Uttrakhand. The temple is dedicated to lord Vishnu. The place is famous for hot water spring known as Tapt Kund, a bath in the spring very revitalizing for the travelers. It was constructed by Shankaracharya; the temple has three parts Garbha Grih, Darshan Mandap and Sabha Mandap.
There are 15 idols in the temple built in black stone, Lord Vishnu is embodied here in meditative postures and is flanked by Nar and Narayan. Another attraction of the place is Mata Murti Ka Mela celebrated to honor the descent of river Ganga every year in the month of September. The temple is open for the month of April-May and closes in the third week of November due to heavy snowfall and it is believed that during this time the deity would be decked by the blissful inhabitants.
