Ahmedabad Travel Guide

Ahmedabad is a popular city located in the state of Gujarat in India. This is a huge city and counted as the sixth largest cities of the country. It is the commercial hub of Gujarat and also known as a hub of tourism of the state of Gujarat. At the beginning of the 11th century, the city of Ahmedabad was founded by King Karandev (1) and he named the city as “Karnavati”. This was a typical Hindu kingdom and retained its grandeur but it was conquered by Sultan Ahmed Shah 1411 along with the entire Gujarat and the city was renamed Ahmedabad after him. Ahmedabad is a city that was built and planned on the plains of Sabarmati River and you can see a various well laid out beautiful lakes, buildings, and mosques. Most importantly Ahmedabad houses one of the premier management institutes of the world-Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad known shortly as IIM-A.

  • Ahmedabad you can start with Gandhi Aashram located near the Sabarmati Aashram which used to be the residence of Mahatma Gandhi at a certain point of time. The ashram was founded by Mahatma Gandhi in 1915, and today, without doubt, it is the biggest tourist attraction in Ahmedabad. The atmosphere of this Ashram is serene and peaceful and there are many relics of the Mahatma is seen here right from Dandi March’ in 1930 from the three wise monkeys and many more of Gandhi’s teachings are seen at the ashram premises. You can also see a handicrafts center, a handmade paper factory and a spinning wheel factory in the ashram.
  • Next you can visit the Sidi Sayed Mosque, which is famous for its exclusive for its delicate architecture. You can see the marvelous Jhali screens, which are framed, in the ten semi-circular windows. Each of the screens has been carved out of a single rock which defines an unusual example of intricate craftsmanship. If you are an admirer of beautiful architecture then do not miss to visit this mosque at any cost.
  • You can also visit the Bhadra Fort which adds more glamours to the city of Ahmedabad. This fort used to be a house of the royals and houses very beautiful and crafted gardens. In this temple, you can see a temple of Bhadrakali (an incarnation of Goddess Kali) and this temple was built during the Maratha rule in the year 1411.
  • More you can visit the Akshardham Temple which is already known for its delicate and beautiful architecture that is popular in the entire nation; also you can make your move towards the Kamla Nehru Zoo to see the various wildlife species.
