Amarnath Caves is one of the most prominent religious destinations located in Jammu and Kashmir. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and was discovered by a Muslim shepherd of Batakot, Buta Malik. There’s a belief that lord Shiva narrated about the secrets of immortality and formation of the universe to Parvati is beloved wife. And pair of pigeons accidentally heard this blissful discussion and was able to know the secret of creations and the devotees believe that these pigeons born again and again and made the cave as their everlasting abode. Devotees can still see the pigeon pair while going towards the Amarnath Cave.

Every year lakhs of devotees visit the Amarnath Temple to pay reverence to Icy Shiva Lingam. The Shiva Lingam is created when the water drops from the roof get gathered and start to freeze on the floor. The place is also famous for the festival of Shravani Mela which is held during the months July-August.  Helicopter services are also available to reach the cave. The journey is not appropriate for physically unfit and for kids. There are tents set up by the localities which can be hired for rest or accommodation. Also, take high-calorie food items like chocolates and dry fruits to fight with the cold and as easy energy replacements.
