Amritsar Travel Guide
Amritsar is a popular city of the state of Punjab in India. It is known for being the spiritual and religious center for the Sikhs. This is known as the holy city mostly visited by the Sikhs from all around the globe and known for the most beautiful ‘Golden Temple’. This is a land mark of this city and the name has been derived from the name of the pool which is set near the Golden Temple which is actually known as the Harmandir Sahib which means “The holy pool of nectar”.
Amritsar City is the holy and religious center of the Sikhs but people from all religions visit this place due to its divinity.The Sikhs are strict about their religion feel proud to be a part of the city and their very beautiful and unique Gurudwara which is made of Real Gold. The Golden Temple was started by the fourth Sikh Guru ‘Guru Ramdaas Ji,’ and completed in 1601 by his descendant Guru Arjan DevJi. Amritsar is a major Sikh pilgrimage and tourist destination of India.

Why Visit Amritsar?
- Without any doubts visit Amritsar to see the ‘The Golden Temple’. This is the only and prominent place for which you can make tour plans to visit Amritsar. This is a beautiful temple made with real gold and precious stones. The temple was made by Raja Ranjit Singh after Guru ram Daas in later times. The architecture of the temple is worth viewing as the gold and exquisite marble works are inspired from the 19th century. Do not miss the Langar (Free meals) here.
- You cannot miss to see the Jallianwala Bagh because of the historical massacre and it is 5 minutes’ walk from the Golden Temple. You can also visit the nearby Mata Temple which is also a scared place for the Hindus. This temple is also known as the Sheesh Mahal and there are various mirror images seen under this temple and you can see various mirror images. It is also said that women who wants child mostly visits this temple.
- Do visit the summer Palace of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Inside the palace you can see beautiful oil paintings, miniatures, ancient coins, weapons from the Sikh era in the museum which is set inside the palace.
- You can also visit the Ram Tirth which has a relevance from the Hindu Mythological epic Ramayana and this place is significant because sons of Lord Rama and Devi Sita was said to be born here, named as Luv and Kush.

- You cannot miss the authentic and mouthwatering Punjabi Cuisine in Amritsar. There are numerous dhabas, restaurants are located here that serves unique menus that are specially made with pure ghee. The taste is authentic and you will love to visit here just for food here.
- Do buy typical Phulkari salwar kameez and Juttis from the local shops of Amritsar as these are some of the traditional wear of Punjab and you can find very beautiful embroidered pieces from here.
- If in Amritsar Do Visit Wagah Border which is a famous road border crossing between Pakistan and India and is near Amritar only. People from both Indian and Pakistan visit this place for the amazing ceremony before sunset each day. Ceremony starts with small blustering parade followed by the lowering of National Flags and finally two soldiers from each side ends the ceremony with a handshake and than the gates are closed. People enjoy the ceremony with greaty joy and vigour.
