Chilkur Balaji Temple also called as Visa Balaji Temple is an ancient Hindu temple located on the banks of Osman Sagar Lake in Hyderabad. The temple is dedicated to Lord Balaji and is one of the oldest temples of Hyderabad. The temple is located on the banks of Osmansagar Lake with tranquil natural beauty with lush green trees and small rocks in a village called as Chilkur.
The temple is ancient one as it was built during the time of Akkanna and Madanna, the uncles of Bhakta Ramdas.This temple does not acknowledge any money, does not have a hundi, from the devotees, no green channel or privileges for VVIPs. This temple fought and won the right to stay out of government control. The only other such temple is “Ramanuj Kot”, a temple in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Devotees come here to wish there needs and once they get what they wished for they walk 108 times around the sanctum sanctorum.The majority of wishes by devotees are visa related, thus Chilkur Balaji is also referred to as ‘Visa’ Balaji.
Temple experiences about 75,000 to 1,00,000 devotees visit in a week. Generally temple gets heavy rush on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Once can find buses and transprt services from Mehdipatnam, Hyderabad easily.
