Assamis northeastern state of India sprawled with numerous temples and monuments, which stand witness to the great historical and cultural past of the state. Kamakhya Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to the mighty goddess Kamakhya and is nestled at the top of the Nilachal Hill by the river Brahmaputra. This is one of the most important pilgrimage destination in the city of Guwahati. The temple is nearly 6 kms from the Guwahati railway junction.

This temple, located on the bank of mighty Brahmaputra, is locally known as Maithan and Bhairabi Devalaya. It is believed that Usha, daughter of mighty Asura King Banasura, regularly came here for worshiping the mighty Goddess Durga.
