Fatehpur Sikri, Agra

Fatehpur Sikri fort is the royal heritage site located near Agra city. The fort was commissioned to be constructed by Akbar in the celebration of the birth of his son Salim and for the admiration the Saint Sheikh Salim Chisti. The fort is bounded by a pool known as the Anup Talab. The fort also houses a Daftar khana which abides all the official records and the library. Jodha Bai’s and Miriam’s palaces are the important places built inside the fort that are dedicated to Akbar’s wives. And it has been added to the UNESCO’s list of World Heritage historic sites.

Architecture

Fatehpur Sikri is a great specimen of Hindu, Islamic and Persian styles of architecture. It is regarded as one of the architectural legacies of Akbar. The Fatehpur Sikri fort comprises of a number of buildings of living quarter, public and private audience halls, guest houses etc. The interiors of the palace are said to have been adored with real gold.
