The Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple is a Hindu temple devoted to Lord Vishnu located in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The shrine is controlled by a trust headed by the imperial group of Travancore. The temple is one of 108 Divya Desams foremost centers of love of the divinity in Vaishnavism. The temple stands close to the heavenly tank – Padma Theertham, which implies ‘lotus spring.‘
The temple building design emerges from its work in stone and bronze, with some beautiful compositions and paintings. - Chingam 1st: Malayalam New Year Day celebrations
- Vinayaka Chathurthi: Celebrated on the Chathurthi tithi on Karuthapaksham(New Moon) of Chingam. Special offerings and deeparadhana are conducted for the Ganesh idol in the Sree Rama Shrine.
- Thiruvonam: A major Thirunal (Birthday) celebrations of Sree Padmanabhaswamy.
- Ashtami Rohini: Sree Krishnaswamy’s birth day is celebrated with special decorations and offerings. The Temple opens early in the noon by 2 pm. At 2.30pm abhishekam of milk is performed to Sree Krishna.
- Valiya Ganapathi Homam: 12 days festival, started 2 days before the commencement of the Navarathri Festival, by the Tharananalloor Namboodiripads who are Tantries of the Temple.
- Alpasi Ulsavam: Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple celebrates bi-annual festivals in the months of Thulam (Alppasi) and Meenam(Painkuni). A function is conducted for according formal sanction to conduct the Ulsavam (festival). This is known as Anujna. Other functions include Mannuneeru Koral, Mula Pooja, Kalasam, etc. The festival starts with Kodiyettu (flag hoisting) at Sree Padmanabhaswamy’s gold and Sree Krishnaswamy’s silver flag poles. The festival is of ten days duration culminating in the spectacular Palliveta and Arat processions on the 9th and 10th days respectively.
- Mandala Chirappu: The celebration for the Sastha begins on the first of Vrischikam. Mandalachirappu falls on the 41st day.
- Swargavathil Ekadasi: An auspicious day for Maha Vishnu devottes, celberated with special poojas, offerings and night Siveli take place.
- Bhadradeepam: Bhadradeepam is observed on the summer and winter solstices. On these day Bhadradeepappura is opened and special poojas are made.
- Kalabham: Conducted for seven days commencing from the last six days of Dhanu and Midhunam. The ablution with sandal paste on the idols is the highlight of the function.
- Niraputhari: Sheaves of grain are ceremoniously brought to the Temple and the chief priest performs pooja to the same and takes them inside the sanctum of Sree Padmanabha Swamy and submits them.
- Murajapam: ‘Mura’ means turn and ‘Japam’ means chanting. This prayer lays tremendous stress on the chanting of Vedas and the Vishnu Sahasranamam( thousand names of Maha Vishnu). It is celebrated once in six years.
- Lakshadeepam: Lakshadeepam is a festival celebtrated by lighting one lakh lamps (deeps). The entire Temple is adorned with lamps and conducted with much pomp and fanfare, in the grandest manner possible by King Marthanda Varma. The next Lakshadeepam festival will be celebrated in January 2014.
- Other festivals celebrated are: Painkuni Utsavam, Sree Rama Navami, Vishu, Karkataka Sreebali and Sree Veda Vyasa Jayanthi

Evening hours: 05:00 p.m. to 06:15 p.m., 06:45 p.m. to 07:20 p.m.
The above-indicated time schedule is subject to changes during festivals and other special occasions. During the festival occasions the darshan time is reduced in order to performing the special poojas
Important Notes and Tips
- Only Hindus are permitted inside the temple or who profess Hindu religion.
- Dress code to be followed at the temple: Men need to wear mundu or dhoti. Women need to wear sari, skirt and blouse, or half sari.
- Salvar sets and other modern dresses are not allowed. Young girls below 12 years may wear gowns.
- Bathe and wear clean clothes before entering the Temple.
- One should follow the procedures and timings of the Temple
- Umbrellas, slippers, cameras, mobile phones, and any other type of electronic equipments and weapons are not permitted inside the Temple.
- Photography is strictly prohibited in the Temple premises.
- Smoking, Carring Tobacco is not allowed inside temple
- Do not enter the Temple or Temple premises after consuming liquor and non-vegetarian food.
- Do not commit any activities of violence or quarrel inside the Temple.
