Allahabad is a prominent city of the state of Uttar Pradesh in India. This city is called as the holiest city among the Hindus. There are various reasons behind that and most of them are associated with religious reasons. Allahabad is also known as the city of Prime ministers of India as the 13 prime ministers are from this city.
Allahabad was previously known as Prayag and the name of this place is mentioned in the holy books of Hinduism such as ‘Puranas’ and ‘Vedas’ on its sanctity and holiness. This place is also known as the ‘Sangam’ or the union of two major Rivers of India that are considered very holy-Ganga and Yamuna.

- More you can see the Sangam where the two holy Rivers of India meet such as Ganga and Yamuna. You can see a line as the meeting point of the two. The two different colors of the water are unified in this place. Do visit this place during the Dusshera festival as you can see great celebration of the religion through ‘Ramleela’ and burning of the huge ‘Ravana’.
- On various tourist spots you can see the Allahabad Fort which was constructed by Emperor Akbar and it is located on the intersection point of two Rivers. And you can see the undying Banyan Tree which is hundreds of years old located at the premises.
- You can also visit the Khusrobagh which was named after the younger brother of Shah Jahan. You can beautiful Persian architecture at this fort. You can also visit the Moti Mahal and Badi Kothi.
- You can visit the several museums of this city such as Allahabad Museum, Anand Bhawan Museum, Archeological Museum, Jawahar planetarium, and many others.
Tips and Recommendations
- While you are Khusro Bagh do not forget to buy the ‘Allahabadi Guavas’ as well as Mangoes( in summers) which are big in sizes and delicious too.
- Do not forget to play the various water sports on the Yamuna River like kayaking, yachting, para sailing, water snookering, skiing, canoeing, shallow water diving and many other water sports. You can also sail on boats organized by Allahabad Boat Club.
- You can have a good time to explore historical secrets through the various historical constructions of this city and do look for the Firangi Kabaristan which is a Christian Cemetery of the British.
- Do have the Mughlai and north Indian cuisines in various eateries of Allahabad and do try the white ‘Rasgulles’ over here which are really relishing.
