Kedarnath Temple is one of the sacred Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located on the Garhwal Himalayan range in Kedarnath Uttrakhand. The exquisitely architectured Kedarnath temple is considered to be more than 1000 years old. The temple was built by Adi Shankaracharya. The inner walls of the temple sanctum are decked with figures of various deities and scenes from mythology. The hall within the temple comprises of statues of the five Pandava brothers, Lord Krishna, Nandi, the vehicle of Shiva and Virabhadra, one of the guards of Shiva and statue of Draupadi and other deities are also installed in the main hall. It is an intricately carved temple with a statue of the Nandi bull at the gates. It is one of the unique temples that demand a tiring trek to have darshan of the deity. The devotees are permitted to do pooja on their own and it is believed that touching the deity would relieve one from all the sins and fetch them with the much awaited Nirvana.

Kedarnath can be reached by the following means; the nearest domestic airport is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun. It is about 239 km from Kedarnath and daily flights are available from major cities. The visitors can board regular tourist buses from Rishikesh and Kotdwar to Kedarnath. Private taxis can also be hired from these places. And the nearest railway station is at Rishikesh, it is about 221 km away from Kedarnath.
