Rajesh Khanna

Jatin Khanna, the first superstar of Indian and Hindi cinema with 74 Golden Jubilee Hits and 22 Silver Jubilee Hits, was born on 29 December 1942 in Amritsar, Punjab, India. Known as the most versatile actor who later regionally were given superstar status in media. He entered in Hindi films in the latter half of the 1960s and did 180 films. By 2011, he held the record for a maximum number of films as the solo lead hero and least number of multi star cast films in Hindi cinema. He was referred to as the “first superstar” and the “original superstar” of Indian cinema. He earned a title of phenomenon following 15 consecutive solo hit films in the period 1969-1972, a record that remains unbroken. he was also a Lok Sabha member of the Indian National Congress from New Delhi constituency from 1992 to 1996. He married Dimple Kapadia in March 1973 and had 2 daughters from the marriage. Their elder daughter Twinkle Khanna is married to actor Akshay Kumar. After being critically ill, Rajesh Khanna died on 18 July 2012. Rajesh Khanna has been awarded posthumously India’s third highest civilian honor Padma Bhushan.

Dilip Kumar

Born as Muhammad Yusuf Khan, in Qissa Khawani Bazaar, Peshawar Pakistan to a Pashtun family. Dilip Kumar is considered to be one of the greatest actors of Indian Cinema. This Indian actor and former Member of Parliament started his acting career in 1944 in Jwar Bhata with a screen name, Dilip Kumar, given by Hindi Author Bhagwati Charan Varma. His debut film could not give him much success as a leading actor. However, he didn’t have to wait for a long time as he got first major success with the film Jugnu released in 1947. Dilip Kumar’s career has spanned 6 decades and over 60 films. Critics acclaimed him among one of the greatest actor ever. Legendary figures like Amitabh Bachchan and Satyajit Ray has described him as “the ultimate, the best and “the ultimate method actor”. For his performance in the 1952 film Daag, he got Filmfare Best Actor Award and became the first Indian actor to receive such prestigious award and with 8 wins, he shares the record along with Shahrukh Khan for the most number of Filmfare Awards won for that category. The Government of India honored him with the Padma Bhushan award in 1991 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 for his contributions towards Indian cinema and nominated him to Rajya Sabha, the upper house of Indian Parliament for a term. He has retired from the Indian film industry in 1998.

Amitabh Bachchan

He was born on October 11, 1942, in Allahabad. He is the son of late poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Teji Bachchan. The trademark deep baritone voice, the tall, brooding persona, and intense eyes made Amitabh Bachchan the ideal Angry Young Men in 70s or 80s. But, It was not easy for him to make his entrance in Bollywood. He was not well accepted as a hero because of his tall height and fair body color. At first, he made his debut as a voice narrator in 1969 in Mrinal Sen’s National Award Winning film- Bhuvan Shome. He got his first acting opportunity in Khwaja Ahmad Abbas directed Saat Hindustani as one of the seven protagonists. He first gained popularity in the early 1970s as the ‘angry young man’ of Hindi cinema and has since appeared in over 180 Indian films in a career spanning and most influential actors in the history of Indian cinema. He also hosts the television game show Kaun Banega Crorepati. He is undoubtedly one of the most popular figures in Hindi film industry. For his acting performance, he is called Big B, Shahenshah etc. In his career, he has won numerous major awards including 4 National Film Awards and 14 Film fare Awards.

Rajinikanth

Rajinikanth has been a megastar in the Tamil movie industry since the 70s. He is one of the highest earning actors in Asia. He has also worked in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and English movies. Shivaji Rao Gaekwad (Rajinikanth) was born on December 12, 1950, in Karnataka, India. before making his entrance to the film industry, he has to do all types of jobs, including carpenter, coolie, bus-conductor. K. Balachandra directed 1975 Tamil movie Apoorva Raagagngal gave him the opportunity to make his debut as co-star alongside Kamal Haasan. However, he cast as the main hero in the 1978 film Bairavi. Kamal Haasan

If ever there was a one-man industry, Kamal Haasan is it. Actor, director, screenwriter, producer and choreographer, there is nothing that he can’t do. He is one of the very few lucky actors who has gained equal popularity in almost all the major Indian language films- Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi. He made his acting debut as a 4-year-old child artist in Kalathur Kannamma, where he starred alongside the veteran Tamil actor Gemini Ganesan. It helped him to get the National Fim Award for Best Child Artist. He made his debut as an adult in the 1975 drama Apoorva Raagangal, in which he played a rebellious youth in love with an older woman. After that, he went on to act in several romantic films. A highly respected actor, Kamal is unquestionably a living legend, one who has stretched himself beyond the points of fathomable versatility. Perhaps most applauded for his performance in Mani Ratnam’s Nayagan, Haasan is a rigid method actor who breathes the air his characters do. The truly impressive thing, however, is his refusal to be pigeonholed into any one ‘kind’ of cinema. In his long lasting career, he has starred in more than 150 movies including all major Indian languages. He won several Indian film awards, including 4 National Film Awards and numerous Filmfare Awards. He is perhaps the only Indian actor bagging more than 18 Filmfare Awards. This man is a living legend that we have amongst us today. His genre of acting lies in his versatility. His real name is Siva Sankara Varaprasad but with a screen name “Chiranjeevi” suggested by his mother, he made his acting debut in 1979 with Telugu film Punadhirallu, directed by Rajkumar. His first released film was Pranam Khareedu. In a film career spanning more than 30 years, he has starred in nearly 150 feature films. Apart from this power packed performances in movies, this macho man is well known for his extraordinary dances and fights. He featured in box-office hit films. He won a number of awards from National Film award (1998) to Padma Bhushan (2006). He also won Nandi Award (4 times) and Filmfare Awards South. Talking about his political career, in 2008 Chiranjeevi started Praja Rajyam, a political party in the state of Andhra Pradesh. In 2012, he was sworn in as the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. Naseeruddin Shah

Another gem from the Hindi film industry, who has found success in both art movies and mainstream masala films. Naseeruddin was born on the 20th of July in the year 1950 to a Muslim background Barabanki situated in Uttar Pradesh, India. In the year 1971, Naseeruddin graduated in the field of arts from the well-known Aligarh Muslim University after which he joined the National School of Drama situated in Delhi. Throughout his career, Naseeruddin acted in various notable movies such as Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, Katha, Trikal, Sparsh and numerous others. Early in his career he appeared in the Ismail Shroff directed ‘Dil Aakhir Dil Hai’ where he starred opposite actress Rakhi Ji. Soon enough he began to get more involved with Bollywood films ever he starred in the 1980 flick ‘Hum Paanch’ directed by Bapu. His next major success was in the year 1996 when he starred in ‘Karma’ directed by Subash Ghai. In 1988 he starred in the English film ‘The Perfect Murder’ where he played the role of Inspector Ghote opposite Ratna Pathak, his wife. In 1994, he made his entry into the Malayalam film industry with T.V. Chandra’s drama, ‘Ponthan Mada’. He also gave a brilliant performance in the 2008 Neeraj Pandey directed ‘A Wednesday’. Some of the international signings, which he had done are as follows- ‘Monsoon Wedding’ and ‘The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen’. Irfan Khan

Sahabzade Irfan Ali Khan also popularly known as Irfan khan is an Indian actor. Irfan was born and brought up in Jaipur, India. He was born on January 7, 1967, into a Muslim Nawab family. He was studying for his M.A degree when he earned a scholarship to study at National School of Drama in New Delhi in 1984. After graduating in 1987, Khan moved to Mumbai, where he acted in numerous television serials like Chanakya, Sara Jahan Hamara, Chandrakanta, Sparsh etc. He was the main villain in a series called Darr (which aired on Star Plus), where he played the role of a psycho serial killer, opposite K.K. Menon. Theatre and television kept him afloat until Mira Nair offered him a cameo in Salaam Bombay (1988) though his role was edited out in the final film. In the 90s he appeared in the critically acclaimed film Ek Doctor ki Maut and such a Long Journey (1998) and various other films which went unnoticed. In September 2015, he was appointed as the brand ambassador for “Resurgent Rajasthan”, a campaign by the state government of Rajasthan.

Prakash Raj

Prakash Rai, also known as Prakash Raj is an Indian method actor and producer in Kannada, Telugu, and Tamil language films. He was born in 1965 in Mangalore and his mother tongue is Tulu. Prakash Rai began his acting career with Kannada Doordarshan serials like Bisilu Kudure and Guddada Bhootha. He later took up small supporting roles in Kannada films like Raamachari, Lookup Death etc and was noticed for his dialogue delivery and histrionics.
