The World UNESCO Heritage Site Agra Fort is one of the most amazing and beautiful forts built by Mughals on the bank of the river Yamuna in Agra City. Just about 2.5 km away from famous Taj Mahal this fort was built by Mughal emperor Akbar in 1565-1573 . Agra Fort sprawls over an area of 94 acres with semicircular plan and is surrounded by huge 21.4 m high fortification wall. The fort with beautiful blend of Hindu and Islamic architecture have four gates amon them the most notable are the “Delhi Gate” and the “Lahore Gate.”
Some of the important architecture inside the Agra fort are Khas Mahal, the Shish Mahal, the octagonal tower of Muhammam Burj, Diwan-i-Khas, and the many pillared Diwan-i-Am built by Shah Jahan. The fort complex also comprises of Moti Masjid or the Pearl Mosque and Nagina Masjid.
Agra Fort Timings and Entry Fees
Agra Fort is open for tourists from sunrise to sunset. Entry Fees For Indian Tourists and visitors of SAARC (Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Maldives, and Afghanistan) and BIMSTEC Countries (Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Myanmar) is Rs 20 while for foreign tourists it is Rs 520.
