The Bara Imambara is one of the famous monuments located in Lucknow. It was built in 1784 by the fourth Nawab of Awadh Asaf-ud-Daula. It is a significant place of worship for Muslims as lots of Muslim people come here to celebrate the festival of Muharram. It was built as a part of a relief project for a major famine that took place in the year 1784 and gave employment to about 22,000 people. The place is also famous for maze called Bhulbhulaiya. It is a belief that the massive structure holds immense treasures inside it. It is also known as Gravity Defying Palace. Bara Imambara complex also houses the monument of Asaf-ud-Daula.

The Bara Imambara is classified Nawabi architecture a unique style of construction. The central hall of the monument is said to be the largest arched hall and has worldwide recognition for its structural excellence and technical expertise. The balcony in the hall is exquisite since it echoes soft sounds throughout the main hall. The roof stands still without any pillars to support it.
