Chittorgarh Fort built in 7th century AD by the Mauryans is located atop the hill about 180 meters above the sea level in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan .This magnificent fort is the symbol of Rajput spirit, valor, pride and romance. The fortification glorifies the core of tribute to the patriotism, fearlessness, medieval gallantry and offering exhibited by the Mewar leaders of Sisodia. The fort have been under various rules but mostly it’s glory expanded during the rule of Sisodias, the Suryavanshi clans of Chattari Rajputs, from the 7th century. In 1568 Mughal Emperor Akbar prevailed over it. In 1616, Mughal Emperor Jehangir restored the post to the Rajputs. Jauhar Mela the biggest Rajput festival is also conducted here inside the fort annually.

Inside Chittorgarh Fort

Chittorgarh Fort is the largest fort of the country in area. Padan Pol, Bhairon Pol, Hanuman Pol, Ganesh Pol, Jodla Pol, Laxman Pol and Ram Pol the main gate of the forts are the seven gates of this majestic fort. The main area of attractions inside the fort are Victory Tower was constrcuted by Rana Khumba between 1458 and 1468 after his victory over Mahmud Shah I Khalji, Kirti Stambha is beautifully carved with Jain sculptures and built by Bagherwal Jain merchant Jijaji Rathod, Rana Kumbha’s Palace located just next to the victory tower comprises of elephant and horse stables and a temple to Lord Shiva and act as museum and archeological office, Padmini’s Palace located at southern part of the fort and Meera Temple devoted to Lord Vishnu was built by Maharana Kumbha in 1449.

Some other notable attractions inside the fort complex are Kalika Mata Temple, Tulja Bhavani Temple, Fateh Prakash Palace , Jain Temples, and Gaumukh Reservoir

The Fort is open from Sunrise to Sunset and other importnat attractions inside the fort have different timings. Fateh Prakash Museum is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. except on Fridays. For entering inside the fort the entry fees is Rs 5 for Indian nationals, Rs 100 for foriegn tourists. For Victory Tower the Entry for Indians is free and for foriegn tourist charged Rs 50. For Rana Kumbha’s Palace Rs 2 for Indians, Rs 50 for foriegn tourists. Camera: Rs 50 extra.
