Purana Qila is the oldest structure located Delhi. The fort is a fine example of the unique Lodi style of architecture and is also known as Qila-i-Kuhna Masjid. It was built by Sher Shah Suri in 1541. There are a number of wonderful structures within the fort locality like the Kairul Manzil, Qila Kuhna Masjid, Sher Mandal and a museum near the fort that holds many artifacts belonging to the Mughal era. A gleaming lake near the Old Fort allows boating facilities to the tourists and gives a beautiful view of the fort. The Sound and Light Show is the great highlight of the place that presents the history of Delhi.

Purana Qila is a great example of Lodi style of architecture are evident influences of Hindu, Afghani and Mughal style of architecture. The fort is made from red sandstone with marbles on the walls. There are three gates at the fort – Bada Darwaza, Talaqi Darwaza and Humayun Darwaza which allows entry into the fort. All three gates are double storied with semi-circular bastion towers on each side. The fascinating building endures the ruins of time.
