Golconda Fort located about 11 km from Hyderabad was the capital of ancient Golconda Kingdom which become famous and prospered during the time of Qutub Shahi Dynasty.It is believed that the fort was still there from 1143 when the Kakatiya Dynasty of Kerala ruled the region before them and is an among the greatest architectural wonders of India. The tomb of the Qutub Shahi is located at the outer walls which have beautifully carved stonework’s. The fort portrays the beautiful blend of Hindu – Muslim architecture style.

Golconda have been world famous since previous times as it was the place of universally famous for the mines that have produced the world’s most famous and coveted gems, including The Hope Diamond, Idol’s Eye, The Koo-i-Noor and Darya-i-Noor.Here you can enjoy the enchanting sound & light show in the evenings that brings the legend of Golconda to life.

Inside Golconda Fort

Golconda Fort is built on a 400 ft. high hill with a circumference of 7 km of the fort wall containing 8 gates and 87 bastions each 50-60 feet high.The fort has three lines of powerful fortification walls one within the other. The first line encloses the town, the second a double wall, runs around the foot of the hill on which the citadel stands. The third line within the second and further up the hill is formed by connecting walls of masonry to the natural boulders.

The Golconda Fort has a striking presence and its higher range is secured with the stays of armories, magazines, mosques, storage facilities, stores, while at the foot of the fortification settled the past homes of the rulers and princesses and residences of their retainers.

Golconda Fort Timings and Entry Fees

Golconda Fort remains open all the days of the week except Monday from 09.00 am – 5.00 pm and the entry fees for the fort is Rs. 10 for Indian Nationals, Rs. 100 for Foreign Nationals. The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Department also organizes light show here which is must see a thing when visiting this fort.
