Nameri National Park
Located at the foothills of Eastern Himalayas in Sonitpur district of Assam, Nameri National Park is the third National Park of Assam. It is bordered by another wildlife area of Pakhui Wildlife Sanctuary of Arunachal. It is famous for elephants and some other species which can be found here are the tiger, Leopard, Sambar, dhole, Pygmy Hog, Muntjac, Gaur, Wild Boar, Sloth Bear, Himalayan Black Bear, Capped Langur and Indian Giant Squirrel.
It is also a bird paradise with about 300 species of birds like Great Pied Hornbill, Wreathed Hornbill, Rufous Necked Hornbill, Black Stork, Ibis Bill, Blue-bearded Bee-eaters, Babblers, Plovers. The habitat of Nameri is made up of tropical evergreen, Semi-evergreen, moist deciduous forests with cane and bamboo brakes and narrow strips of open grassland along rivers.
Tourists can enjoy fishing at Nameri river which is famous for Golden Masheer Fish which is called as “Tiger of the Himalayan rivers”. River rafting and trekking cn also be done by adventure lovers.
